The hardest part of losing weight and getting fit is often finding a form of exercise that makes you want to come back tomorrow, next week, and months from now.
That’s where VR fitness changes the workout experience: it turns working out into an activity you actually look forward to.
The stationary bike that had been gathering dust starts getting used almost every day. Ten minutes of rowing turns into longer sessions. A person who could barely run for one minute eventually starts running 5Ks. And a person who had never been able to maintain a fitness routine finds herself exercising regularly.
Over the years, we’ve seen versions of these stories again and again in the HOLOFIT community. The goals, starting points, and results are different, but one thing comes up consistently: finding a way to make exercise enjoyable enough to stick with it.
And when those workouts start adding up, the results can be remarkable.
How Real HOLOFIT Users Lost Weight with HOLOFIT
107 lbs lost.
60 lbs in one year.
22 kg from January to August.
From fewer than 300 daily steps to 5,000–10,000.
From a size 22/24 to a size 8/10.
These are all results that members of our community have shared with us over the years.
They are individual, self-reported experiences, not results from a controlled weight-loss study.
But when we looked back through their stories, we noticed something interesting.
The Biggest Change Was Often Consistency
“In my entire life, 60 years of it, I was never able to sustain a healthy fitness plan.”
Shortly after her 60th birthday, Alana decided she wanted to lose 40 pounds and become healthier. She started using HOLOFIT.
At the time she first shared her progress with the community, Alana had lost 35.5 pounds and was only 4.5 pounds away from her goal.
Years later, she is still here.

Neil’s story starts with a stationary bike that rarely gets used. Then he started using HOLOFIT.
“Holofit got me exercising just about every day for 30–60 minutes.”
A year later, alongside changes to his diet, Neil reported losing around 60 pounds. More importantly to him, he was exercising regularly again and feeling much better than before.
Then there’s Ronni.
Using HOLOFIT alongside intermittent fasting, she reported losing 107 pounds, going from a women’s size 22/24 to a size 8/10. But her story didn’t end with a smaller clothing size.
She built enough endurance and strength that she started running 5Ks. When she shared her progress with the community, she was preparing to run her sixth.
Talking about HOLOFIT, she described something we hear surprisingly often:
“I really don’t notice time sometimes because the worlds are so interesting. It keeps me going!”
And there’s always more:
- Since discovering HOLOFIT, Tracy says she has gone from 115.9 kg to 103 kg, dropped two dress sizes and gained more energy. She now looks forward to putting on her headset every day.
- Gail’s starting point was one minute. She had been struggling with exercise and could only run for about a minute when she began. After getting her Meta Quest and making HOLOFIT part of her fitness journey, she reported losing 50 pounds. Eventually she reached a milestone that meant much more to her than a number on the scale: for the first time in more than 30 years, her thighs no longer rubbed together.
- For Elisha, it started with ten minutes of rowing. At her highest weight, she had reached 338 lbs. As she began making broader changes to her lifestyle, she discovered HOLOFIT as a way to make exercise more engaging. Months later, she completed two full laps of HOLOFIT’s Tropical environment and collected all 18 trophies for the first time. She cried. Not because she had completed a VR level, but because of what completing it represented.

- And for one Holofitter over the age of 70, retirement had created a different problem. A pedometer revealed something surprising: some days involved fewer than 300 steps. With HOLOFIT? Daily activity increased to somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 steps, while 30 pounds came off along the way.
Different people. Different goals. Very different routines.
But the same important shift: exercise stopped being something they continually abandoned.
HOLOFIT Wasn’t the Only Thing They Changed
There’s something important we need to say about all of these stories: HOLOFIT did not exist in isolation.
Ronni combined HOLOFIT with intermittent fasting. Neil changed his diet.
Egri, another community member who reported losing 22 kg between January and August, going from 80 kg to 58 kg, made the point herself: “Of course it is not only the sport but also massive changes in the diet. Still, Holofit was a big help.”
These stories do not prove that using HOLOFIT will cause someone to lose a particular amount of weight. Individual results depend on food intake, activity levels, starting weight, health, genetics, and many other factors.
However, for these members of our community, HOLOFIT became a way to exercise regularly enough for physical activity to become part of a broader lifestyle change.
And science gives us some clues about why VR fitness may be particularly useful for doing that.
VR Fitness, According to Science
Research into VR fitness shows why immersive exercise can be different from traditional workouts.
- The MOTIVE study, which investigated exercise with HOLOFIT, explored how VR can influence the experience of physical activity and its potential to make exercise more engaging.
Participants completed VR cycling sessions twice a week for eight weeks.
They attended an average of 15 of the 16 planned exercise sessions. Researchers also found that their overall physical activity increased significantly over the course of the intervention.
One 76-year-old participant explained the appeal very simply: “Without the virtual reality, it would be monotonous and boring, which is why a lot of people give up exercise.”
- More recent research has continued to examine the role of VR-based exercise, including its effects on exercise experience, motivation, and physical and psychological outcomes.
The study found that older adults preferred gamified indoor virtual cycling over a non-gamified experience, and that it was easy and enjoyable to use, while also showing improvements in wellbeing.
This doesn’t mean VR magically makes exercise effortless. What changes is your motivation.
Instead of staring at the wall in front of your exercise bike, you might be racing through Paris. Instead of counting down the minutes on a rowing machine, you might be looking for the next trophy. Instead of thinking only about calories or kilometers, you have another reason to see what’s around the next corner.
And that may be exactly what some people need to come back tomorrow.
Your weight-loss journey starts with your next workout
Every Holofitter starts somewhere.
Whether you’re already training regularly and want to make your workouts more engaging, your old routine has become boring, you’re coming back after years away from exercise…
Or maybe, like some of the Holofitters in these stories, you’re starting with one minute, one kilometer, or one workout a week.
There is no single right way to make progress. What matters is finding a way to keep going.
Because every big transformation starts with a first step, and every small win is proof that you’re moving forward.
