You`ve heard of indoor rowing, cycling and running, but what about skiing?

The new HOLOFIT Freestyle Nordic skiing feature is a  whole-body workout. You can burn up to 400 calories in a 30-minute session! Even doing it for 5 minutes can have significant benefits for your muscles. Sounds amazing, right?

What is Nordic Skiing?

Nordic skiing is the original type of skiing that got its name after the Nordic region. Because of the long winters in Norway, Finland and Sweden, people had to find a way to travel through the never ending snow. They started using long, wooden boards, a practice that over time developed into the Nordic skiing we all know and love!

Nowadays, there are 3 different types of Nordic skiing: alpine touring, cross-country skiing and telemark skiing. It is different from “normal” downhill skiing we would do at resorts, because of the free-heel binding system.

Indoor Skiing

Over time, the need for off-season training gave us indoor skiing on fitness machines. Each skiing machine focuses on different skiing techniques and movements.

One of those fitness machines is the Concept2 SkiErg, which provides you with a low-impact full-body workout, thanks to the rhythmic motion.

Concept2 SkiErg

The HOLOFIT Freestyle Skiing feature is based on the SkiErg machine motion. We wanted to put more emphasis on the lower body muscle workouts, and skiing is perfect for giving your thighs, calves, and butt a better shape and more strength. We will not limit skiing to Freestyle though, HOLOFIT on SkiErg machines will follow as well!

HOLOFIT Freestyle Skiing Technique

Arms, legs, back, butt, core – work it all while you ski through the amazing HOLOFIT worlds.

In HOLOFIT, go to Settings and choose the Controllers option. Head to the workout mode and environment of your choice and pick the Skiing option.

With every type of exercise, especially skiing, proper technique is very important. With the right posture and movements, even an exercise that seems easy can have a huge impact on your strength and muscle building.

To get the best out of Freestyle skiing, start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart while holding your arms at eye-level and bent at 90°. Next, you want to swing your arms downwards and back, while squatting. Don’t squat too deep and tighten your core. Finally, swing your arms back to the first position while standing up. Keep squatting and swinging your arms vigorously.

Freestyle Skiing on a fitness machine

Right now, HOLOFIT is not compatible with any skiing machine, so you wouldn’t be able to directly connect the two. However, if you want to utilize your machine, there is a solution!

Once you`ve chosen the Controllers and Skiing option, attach the controllers to the handles. Just be careful when attaching them so that they don’t break as you work out.

Finally, we are working on enabling HOLOFIT to connect directly to the Concept 2 SkiErg, therefore removing the need for the controllers while you work out.
